Support Groups

Support groups are helpful to widowers because they allow widowers to realize they are not alone, give them an appropriate avenue for expressing emotions, spread information about how to deal with grief, can help them gain hope, can reduce their distress, increase their self-understanding, enable them to help others, and are affordable (source).

The organizations listed below were developed from an Internet search and are provided as a reference tool. National Widowers’ Organization doesn’t affiliate with these organizations are we don’t necessarily recommend them. Due to the changes in the many organizations, we cannot assure the current availability of a men’s program. Therefore, we recommend contacting the organization directly. Feel free to let them know how you located them and also feel free to contact us at [email protected]

Besides providing a virtual place for men coping with the loss of a loved one, we have also created an ebook about the basics of starting a widowers’ group. You can purchase “How to Start a Widowers’ Group: A Manual for Men” on Amazon or Download a PDF to your Computer.

Also, you can try a Google search for “men’s bereavement group near me”, “hospice near me”, or similar to find groups not listed below that are local to you.
